Summertime Wine Cocktails ~ Vodka, Whiskey & Beer!

It's Summertime!  Time for cool refreshing cocktails.  We decided to take some of our favorites, and give them a wine twist.  This time, adding a little TX Vodka and TX Whiskey!  Part 3 of 3

Cranberry Sparkling Cocktail

Cranberry juice always makes a great cocktail, as does vodka. We found this Yummly recipe which included champagne and vodka in the mix and had to try it!  As we learned when we made the Bellini, champagne substitute is wine with club soda.  For this cool treat we combined:

  • 2 parts cranberry juice

Served over ice, and topped with club soda (or sprite if you like it sweeter) and this one is simple, refreshing and delicious!

Wine and Whiskey

Since we had brought out the "liquor" in the form of vodka, we wanted to see what wine and whisky would be like.
In full experimental mode we tried this Liquor.com recipe blending:

We were not sure what the end result would taste like, and after pouring over ice and serving, we were delighted it was delicious!  Tip, mix the honey and whiskey together at room temperature or above, to make sure the honey completely dissolves.

Wine Alternative ~ TX Beer

And, if wine nor any of these drinks in this 3 part summer wine cocktail series are your thing, remember, Texas makes great beer!
We loved the Revolver Brewing Blood & Honey and Real Ale Brewing Company's Firemans #4.

Enjoy your summer, lift your glass, and *cheers* to Texas!

Three part Summer Wine Cocktails ~ Go Texan!

Being wine enthusiasts our beverage experience includes knowledge of wine, making of sangria and sipping of other tasty drinking. We knew we needed to keep the recipes simple without too many ingredients, for ease of prep.  A little web surfing got us some great inspiration for these tasty treats.

Summertime Wine Cocktails ~ Belinnis and Mimosas!

It's Summertime!  Time for cool refreshing cocktails.  We decided to take some of our favorites, and give them a wine twist.  Part 2 of 3

Peach Bellini

Inspired by the delicious peaches in season right now and fond memories of the original Bellini drink, we decided to give a Wine-y Bellini a try!  The Bellini is a popular sparkling wine cocktail and a perfect way to make your favorite wine a little peachy.

Have a champagne recipe but no champagne?  Use wine with club soda for the fizzy champagne feel. Like your Bellini's a little sweeter?  Use Blanc du Bois Semi-Sweet as your wine or Sprite as your fizz.
We think this recipe could be even better if we got out a blender and pureed some peach into it.  Or even poured the whole mix into the blender with ice to make a frozen Bellini.  mmmmm

While sipping on the Bellini, we decided that the same mix of wine and club soda over Oak Farms Dairy orange juice would make a really delicious mimosa....

Enjoy your sangria in whichever form you have it, and stay tuned for the next installment of Summer Wine Cocktails ~ Go Texan!

Summertime Wine Cocktails ~ Sangria-On-The-Go!

It's Summertime!  Time for cool refreshing cocktails.  We decided to take some of our favorites, and give them a wine twist.  Part 1 of 3...  here we go!

Sacred Sangria ~ On the Go!

We started with what we know and love, Lost Oak Winery's Sacred Sangria (served every Thursday, paired with live music on the patio in the spring and summer.)  But, what about when you are not at the winery, or it's not Thursday?  Don't deny yourself!  You can easily have Sacred-Sangria-On-the-Go! We are pro's at how to make Sangria in bulk (recipe on Facebook).  Here is what we did for single serves.

  • 1 small to-go sized bottle of Oak Farms orange juice
  • 1 small to-go sized bottle of lemonade
  • 1 small to-go sized bottle of Sprite (or club soda)
  • 1 bottle of Lost Oak Winery Dolce Rouge

We mixed equal parts of the OJ and lemonade over ice, added the wine and topped off with Sprite.  Don't like it so sweet? Use Club Soda instead of the Sprite.  The great thing about this quick recipe is you can make it totally to taste!  Add more or less wine/juice/or soda.

Have leftover sangria or want to cool it down even more?  We found these amazing Sangria Slushies we are dying to try.

Sangria on a stick?  Yep!  Pour your leftover sangria into a popsicle mold with some fruit, and enjoy a few hours later.

Want white sangria?  Don't forget Pear Sangria from our March blog.

Enjoy your sangria in whichever form you have it, and stay tuned for the next installment of Summer Wine Cocktails ~ Go Texan!
