How I Live Better With Yoga

To celebrate Earth Day 2015 we asked Holley who leads Yoga in the Vineyard every Tues and Thursday morning at Lost Oak Winery's vineyard lawn to tell share with us the many benefits of yoga.  Thank you Holley!

Yoga has made a huge impact on American culture in recent years.  The image of the perfect yogi is prolific in advertisements and marketing, so much so that we all have this image in our minds of an ideal "yoga body." And while it's true that a consistent yoga practice can be an important part of our journey to look and feel healthier, “looking good" is not the main benefit of yoga. So, I want you to take that image and turn it inside out, because honestly, it's what's inside that counts.  There are multiple ways that consistent yoga practices can and will help you handle stress gracefully, age beautifully and feel your best....

Yoga Prevents Joint Breakdown
Taking your joints through their full range of motion, especially motions you normally don't experience in your daily life, provides them with fresh nutrients and actually prevents degenerative arthritis.

Yoga Protects Your Spine
Your spinal discs need movement! That is how they get their nutrients. Yoga plus a healthy diet and proper hydration are your keys to a young & happy spine.

Yoga Busts Stress
We build tension during our yoga practice so that we can learn how to deal with tension in our daily lives. By training your body to handle stress and tension in appropriate ways we can mitigate the deleterious effects of stress on our bodies. Yoga has been proven to lower cortisol levels & blood pressure as well as relieve depression and anxiety.

Eliminates "Monkey Mind"
Constantly being wrapped up in, worried about, or preoccupied with "the next thing" is one symptom of what I call "Monkey Mind." Because yoga trains you & your mind to be present and to stay focused on the task at hand, we can prevent a lot of unnecessary drama in our lives and destroy "monkey mind" with a regular & balanced practice. Being able to effectively give your all to each moment in your life can improve your self esteem.

These are just a few of the ways yoga effects total well being, from the inside out.
